The End of an Era: Farewell to Our Scout Hut (1969–2026)

This week marks the end of an important chapter in our Scout Group’s history, as demolition of our beloved Scout Hut has now officially been completed.

Standing proudly since 1969, the hut was far more than just a building. For over five decades, it was a second home to generations of young people, volunteers, leaders, parents, and supporters. Within those walls, friendships were formed, skills were learned, confidence was built, and countless memories were made.

The hut witnessed decades of adventure and laughter. From Beaver meetings filled with energy and excitement, to Cubs learning new skills and Scouts preparing for camps and expeditions, every corner of the building carried stories. It hosted badge presentations, camp kit checks, fundraising events, Christmas parties, sleepovers, planning meetings, and moments that shaped so many lives.

For many in our community, the Scout Hut was part of growing up. Former members who once sat around its tables as young Scouts later returned as adult volunteers, bringing their own children through the doors years later. That continuity and sense of community is something truly special, and it is what Scouting is all about.

While the physical building may now be gone, the memories created there will remain for generations to come. The spirit of the hut lives on in every campfire song sung, every badge earned, every challenge overcome, and every friendship still treasured today.

As emotional as it is to say goodbye, this moment also represents a new beginning. We look ahead with excitement and optimism for the future of our Scout Group and the opportunities that lie ahead for the next generation of young people.

To everyone who helped build, maintain, support, and fill the hut with life from 1969 to 2026 — thank you. Your time, dedication, and memories have helped shape something far bigger than bricks and mortar.

Farewell, old hut.
You served us well.
