Discover Explorers
Discover the world.
As an Explorer you can take part in over 200 activities from abseiling to zorbing! There’s something for everyone no matter what your interest or physical ability. Adventure is at the heart of everything we do, and through the everyday adventure of Scouting, people’s lives are enriched and they are able to enjoy new challenges and experiences!
Seek out the answers to big questions.
Explorers seek out the answers to the big questions, and to the smaller questions that don’t seem to matter but really should. Most importantly, they say yes more often than they say no – whether they’re signing up for their first major hike across Europe, or planning there own camps.
Sound like fun? That’s because it is. All that’s missing is you.
Explorers are a go-getting group of young people aged 14 to 18, the next section on there scouting trail. Week in and week out, they gather in groups to try new exciting things, make new friends and conquer the small task of changing the world.
With the support, direction and guidance of Unit leaders, Explorer Scouts are encouraged to lead themselves, design their own programme and work towards the top awards that Scouting offers. With exciting prospects like being a part of camps and expeditions both home and abroad; adventurous activities such as mountaineering, parascending and off shore sailing; Explorers offers fun and adventure for all no matter your ability.
Explorers also have the opportunity to be a part of The Young Leaders’ Scheme which develops their leadership skills and sense of responsibility, by helping to run meetings for younger sections.
Every Explorer is unique, but they find common ground in their shared Scout values, and make a promise to stick by them.
Making a promise when you join the Unit is a way of celebrating these values.
Every time a new Explorer decides to join, they chat through their promise with their leader before saying it out loud in front of their fellow Explorers. Family and friends might come along to see this, too. The process usually takes place once you’ve had a few weeks to settle in, and is known as being ‘invested’.
